The Diabetes & Immunology Unit, which is based at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, is part of the Institute of Cell and Molecular Medicine of Queen Mary College, University of London. Within the Action-LADA European project we are Partner n°1

 

The Diabetes & Immunology Unit has two research groups which focus their work on Type 1 (insulin dependent) diabetes mellitus.

The research group is headed by:

Prof. RDG Leslie (also principle Co-Ordinator of the ACTIONLADA project)

Prof. Leslie's group looks at the development of Type 1 DM using unique cohorts including twins and patients with Stiff Man Syndrome. Professor Leslie runs the largest cohort of diabetic twins in the world.

Prof. P Pozzilli
(also Associate Co-Ordinator of the ACTIONLADA project)works in the Department where his group studies mechanisms of diabetes and possible modes of prevention.


The Clinical Diabetes Department within the Hospital operates clinics for diabetic patients in the City of London.

We have strong connections with Europe and in particular with three of the University of Rome, Italy (including 'La Sapienza' , 'Tor Vergata' and 'Campus Biomedico').
