The Endocrinology and Diabetes team has five senior physicians and eight residents. The Diabetes Unit focuses its work on the care of diabetes-specific complications in type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The endocrinology division has specialised particularly in the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid diseases, disorders of the adrenal gland and disturbances of bone metabolism.

The clinicians closely collaborate with basic scientists of the Laboratory of Endocrinology and Diabetes which includes laboratories for cell and molecular biology, immunology and metabolism. The main areas of research are the development of new methods for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of disorders of the thyroid, the adrenal gland and metabolic diseases such as obesity and diabetes. Within this research program one group works on the characterisation of the autoantibody responses in type 1 diabetes, autoimmune

thyroid disease, Addison´s disease, and autoimmune polyglandular syndrome.

In the Action-LADA project the patients will be recruited from a local collaborative network including general physicians and diabetologists.
