The Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) is one of the leading academic endocrinological centers in Spain. It is a clinical, teaching and research unit, integrated within the Department of Medicine, UAB.
The activities performed in this center include clinical activities such as out-patient care, with approximately 20,000 visits per year. The Diabetes Centre covers around 3,500 patients (35% type 1, 65% type 2). This is the reference tertiary center for a

population of around 400,000, with sub-specialised clinics for type 1 diabetes, diabetes and pregnancy, insulin pump therapy, prediabetic staging and diabetes prevention. Clinical facilities include one ward for in-patients, an out-patient unit of Endocrinology, and a Diabetes Centre and Day-care unit. The research laboratory is equipped for immunology, genetics, molecular biology and other procedures. One of the main research activities is
dedicated to the area of immunogenetics of diabetes mellitus.
