Aims and purpose of study

I. Epidemiology
To define the prevalence of LADA in different European countries by screening 10,000 adult patients with recently diagnosed with non-insulin requiring diabetes with the hope of obtaining 1000 patients with LADA. Each centre will screen 1000 non-insulin requiring diabetes cases), and for the prevention trial (randomize about 35 cases).

II. Characterization
To characterise genetic, immunological and metabolic features of patients affected by LADA

III. Intervention Trial
To prevent or delay disease progression in LADA patients by running a double-blind trial with the therapeutic agent DiaPep277™. For the prevention trial, we aim to identify 350 LADA patients with defined positivity for autoantibodies to glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) and islet cell antibodies (ICA) but who are initially non insulin requiring.
